Olympic Torch Relay – Penticton, Agassiz and Surrey

I had a chance to see the torch three times over the past week.  First, in Penticton, where a huge crowd gathered outside the South Okanagan Events Center.

Then in Agassiz, where Laurens van Vliet, my brother-in-law’s father, ran with the torch.  It was great to have the whole family out to see it. Great job on the run Laurens!
Lastly in Surrey, right across the street from my parent’s house in Holland Park. It was supposedly the largest turnout yet, for any of the torch events. It was packed. Olympic gold medallist Daniel Igali carried the torch for the last stretch of the run.

Today the torch made a stop in Steveston, which would also have been pretty neat to see.  The torchbearer there was Jim Kojima, one of Lukas’s old Judo senseis from the Steveston Judo Club.

  1. Hi Jan, we finally got a chance to read through your entire blog and wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying it. You are very talented and your images capture so much of the spirit of each passing day, they are just fantastic. We cannot wait to see and read more. You’ve given us an opportunity to delve into a perspective that few can experience. Thanks again for the shot of us at the cauldron too! Barry and Lana.
